Open House will Highlight Activities at Red Rock Canyon

Open House will Highlight Activities at Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is packed with places to hike, bike and climb, and anyone interested in those activities will get a chance to learn about them at an open house Thursday.

The Bureau of Land Management will host the open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the visitor center. The event will highlight the hiking, biking, climbing and other activities available at the Red Rock National Conservation Area.

Tour operators and outdoor guides will have booths set up and some will be offering discounts. Some of the tour and guide groups expected include Bobcat Tours, Red Rock Hiking Tours, McGhie’s Bike Outpost and Red Rock Riding Stables.

The open house is part of a series of meetings that are held on the third Thursday of every month. The meetings let people talk with BLM staff and get information about public lands.

Ride for Free on Sahara Express

Ride for Free on Sahara Express

Commuters are urged to “dump the pump” and take a free ride on the Sahara Express.

The Regional Transportation Commission is offering free rides on the Sahara Express bus service now through Sunday. The Sahara Express provides a dedicated bus lane for express service along Sahara Avenue from Hualapai Way on the western side of the Las Vegas Valley to Boulder Highway in the east.

The free rides are part of the seventh annual national Dump the Pump Day, which is Thursday. The RTC is joining with other public transportation systems to encourage people to take public transportation, ride a bike or carpool on that day. People can go to rtcsnv.com for information on fairs, routes and the Club Ride program.

Campaign Aims to Provide Water for Homeless

Campaign Aims to Provide Water for Homeless

Donations of water and money are being sought to help hydrate the homeless through the brutal southern Nevada summer heat.

HELP of Southern Nevada’s “HELP2O” campaign seeks to help protect homeless residents by donating water and spare change at Whole Foods Market now through August. Those looking to donate bottled water can do so by visiting Whole Foods’ Tenaya (7250 W. Lake Mead Blvd.) and Town Square (6689 Las Vegas Blvd.) locations.

Bottled water donations can be purchased in-store and donated, or purchased elsewhere and dropped off at Whole Foods. The water will be collected on a regular basis and distributed throughout the area.
