Google expected to make a big announcement in Henderson

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The City of Henderson and Google executives will makie an announcement about the data center investment currently being built.

According to Henderson Mayor Debra March, the data center is a $600 million project. She said there are only 13 locations around the world, six of them in the United States.

Mayor March sat down with 8 News Now Good Day about the upcoming project and what it means for jobs.

This will be an additional location. They’re going to be operating google G Mail, Youtube, and Google Calendar, which will be operating and supporting the City of Henderson so we couldn’t be more thrilled. They’re going to be creating about 50 jobs, $65,000 a year. These are good jobs that will support our economy, and that’s been part of our strategic goal in economic development.

COURT RECORDS: 16-year-old Del Sol Academy student accused of killing 75-year-old apartment security guard

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — 16-year-old Anthony Okelberry is accused of killing 75-year-old Hursey Addison, an unarmed security guard at a Las Vegas valley apartment complex.

8 News Now obtained the nearly 90-page grand jury transcript, which details the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting in April.

According to the grand jury transcript, the Clark County coroner’s office ruled Addison’s cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head with the manner of death listed as a homicide. Evidence photos show an apparent bullet hole in Addison’s car window and a ransacked glove box.

Metro police detectives told the grand jury they were able to connect Okelberry to the crime because they put a fraud flag around Addison’s missing credit cards. They were alerted to a gas station ATM where they saw surveillance video of two teens trying to use the credit cards and then walking toward Del Sol Academy... Read More

ONLY ON 8 NEWS NOW: Security guard arrested in deadly NW shooting appears in court

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Brian Love, the man arrested for a deadly shooting that occurred near Interstate 215 and Decatur Boulevard yesterday, appeared in court for the first time today.

8 News Now was the only station in the courtroom today when Love appeared before a judge on murder charges.

Prosecutors say Love was working as a security guard in a shopping center when he walked up to a man sleeping on the sidewalk and shot at him as many as 15 times. He never called the police, so the body wasn’t found until hours later.

His public defender asked for bail, but the judge ordered Love remain in jail until his next hearing on Tuesday, July 2. ... Read More

Racist, anti-gay student flyers challenge Wyoming district

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – The leaflets distributed by students at a junior high school told pre-teens to “Join the KKK” and that “It’s not OK to be gay.”

In the capital of the state known for the 1998 murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard, school officials have worked to respond to the spring incident. They’re holding community meetings and plan to hire a “diversity and cultural awareness” counselor while providing additional employee training.

“We’ve got a pretty good plan to try to work on all of that,” said Boyd Brown, superintendent of Laramie County School District No. 1.
