Metro officers rescue horse from tipped over trailer crash

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro Police helped in the cutest rescue Monday. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Bolden Area Command officers had to help rescue a horse from a tipped over horse trailer.

Risas, local Las Vegas dentist, provides free dental work in ‘Labor of Love’ event

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Dental care can cost people who don’t have insurance thousands of dollars a year. So, it’s always helpful when they’re able to receive dental treatment for free. On Labor Day, one local organization stepped up to give people new smiles for free.

Each year Risas Dental and Braces located in North Las Vegas puts on a ‘Labor of Love’ event where they offer free dental service. The Risas office is packed with people, and all of the chairs are filled as 100 kids, parents, and older adults get their teeth cleaned, x-rayed, and pulled. The dentist even fills cavities.

“The mouth is very much neglected in most people,” said Dr. Benjamin Menlove, Risas of Las Vegas. “Oral health, if it’s neglected, can affect your overall health in a big big way.”

Aviators celebrate playoffs, release schedule

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – In their first season at the new Las Vegas Ballpark, the Las Vegas Aviators clinched a playoff birth. Their first as a franchise in 5 years.

The Aviators begin the best of 5 playoff series at Sacramento on Wednesday Sept. 4. Game Two will be in Sacramento on Thursday Sept. 5.

The playoff series moves to Las Vegas Friday Sept. 6 and games will be played Saturday and Sunday at the Ballpark, if necessary.

Las Vegas completed the
regular season leading all of Triple-A (30 teams) in attendance with 650,934 in
70 dates (9,299 average).

The Aviators finished the
season with a record of 83-57 (.593) which ranked second best in the 16-team
PCL (Round Rock was 84-55, .604 entering today).

The 83 wins is tied for
second in franchise history with the 1983 Las Vegas Stars (83-60, .580). The

At least 5 killed in Hurricane Dorian flooding in Bahamas; storm threatens residents along southeast coast in US

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP Modified) — Hurricane Dorian unleashed massive flooding across the Bahamas on Monday, pummeling the islands with so much wind and water that authorities urged people to find flotation devices and grab hammers to break out of their attics if necessary. At least five deaths were blamed on the storm.

“We are in the midst of a historic tragedy,” Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said in announcing the fatalities. He called the devastation “unprecedented and extensive.”

The fearsome Category 4 storm slowed almost to a standstill as it shredded roofs, hurled cars and forced even rescue crews to take shelter until the onslaught passed.

Search continues for missing hiker on Mount Charleston

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Authorities are still searching for 35-year-old Daniel Reza who was last seen Aug. 25 on Mount Charleston in the area of Warm Springs and South Decatur.

A missing persons report from Metro says Reza was wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt and blue jeans and may need medical attention.

Red Rock Search and Rescue, Metro and the Air Force 34th Weapons Squadron Rescue pararescue specialists were joined by local hikers and 4X4 drivers in the search.

Odessa shooting victims identified, 1 had lived in Las Vegas

ODESSA, Texas (KTSM) — The names and faces of those who were killed or injured Saturday in the shooting rampage that left seven dead and nearly two dozen injured are emerging via the crowdfunding website, GoFundMe.

As of Monday morning, GoFundMe verified 12 separate fundraisers. They include five of the dead and seven injured.

Granados, 29, a postal carrier, was shot and killed while on her route when the shooter carjacked her carrier van. A co-worker who set up the account called Mary, “beautiful inside and out, with a great heart and always ready to be a friend, always had a smile on her face!”

Target, Walmart offering deals for old car seats during National Baby Safety Month

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — September is National Baby Safety Month, a time when parents and caregivers are educated and reminded about infant safety. This year, two retail giants are marking the observance by offering special deals.

Target and Walmart are asking people to bring in old car seats. Target is offering a 20 percent discount coupon for a new seat, stroller or baby gear. Walmart is giving a $30 gift card.
