Fatal incident reported near 33 Hole Overlook at Lake Mead

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (KLAS) — An adult female was found deceased near 33 Hole Overlook at Lake Mead on Sunday, the National Park Service reports.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife notified the park service they observed abandoned items on the shoreline in the area at 1:40 p.m. Responding rangers located the victim in the water. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of death and victim’s identity will be confirmed by the Clark County Medical Examiner.

Cincinnati, Ohio (KLAS) — Everyone’s favorite hippo made the most of a rainy day in one adorable moment caught on cam.

A Cincinnati Zoo donor spotted Fiona catching raindrops in her mouth during a leisurely swim in her tank.

Fiona gained worldwide fame when she was born six weeks premature in January 2017 and fought for survival, ultimately winning with the aid of the zoo’s staff and others. Since then, she’s become a beloved household name.

Not so easy to prevent the spread of mass shooters’ names

When law enforcement authorities gathered to discuss details of a mass shooting in West Texas that left seven people dead, there was one bit of information they refused to provide on live television: the name of the gunman.

Rapper Fetty Wap arrested after allegedly punching valet at the Mirage

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Rapper Fetty Wap was arrested Sunday after he allegedly got into a physical altercation with a valet at the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

Law enforcement told TMZ Fetty punched the valet three times during the dispute. Another Mirage staff member reportedly made a citizen’s arrest, detaining the rapper until Metro arrived on-scene.

TMZ reports Fetty was booked for three counts of misdemeanor battery and was released after a few hours in custody. ... Read More

KLAS will air National Anthem daily, restoring long-held tradition

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – 8 News Now is one of 171 Nexstar Media Group stations around the country that will broadcast “The Star-Spangled Banner” each morning.

The
broadcasts are a partnership between Nexstar, BMI, and Belmont University. The
national anthem will be performed by a variety of emerging artists, who will
record their own unique versions of the song at Belmont’s Ocean Way Studios.
All musical genres will be highlighted during the series.

The
first group of performers includes Nashville-based Brian Sutherland, Texas
native Kristen Kelly, and 2018 American Idol contestant Julia Cole.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A restaurant on The Strip is grilling out on this Labor Day to raise money for a Valley charity.

8 News Now’s Bianca Holman made a stop at Smoked Burgers & BBQ to dish on the details with Chef David Mangual and Ryan Klassen of Hospitality Boulevard.

The establishment collaborates with celebrities on its monthly charity initiatives, and this month, the creation is Donny and Marie’s “It Takes Two” burger. Proceeds from this purchase go to Children’s Miracle Network.

“We’re always looking for more opportunities to get involved in the community, more opportunities to be involved with charity,” Klassen said. “Linking up with some of the local celebrities and people that are involved with shows has given us a platform to amplify that message and given us an opportunity to create some real cool food with Chef Dave.” ...
