Metro investigates shooting near MLK and Bonanza

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro Police are investigating a shooting near M.L.K. and Bonanza. According to police, around 2:30 p.m., dispatch received a call about a person who was shot at 98 S. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries. There’s no word on the shooter.

The Raiders are playing their final season in Oakland and will move to Las Vegas in 2020. Games will be played in the new Allegiant Stadium near the Las Vegas Strip, but the Raiders offices and practice facilities will be in Henderson.

The facility is being built on 55 acres on St. Rose Parkway, near I-15. It’s estimated to cost $75 million. The Raiders will likely continue their Training Camp in Napa, CA because of the heat in Southern Nevada, but typically teams break Camp after the third week of preseason to move to their permanent facility... Former ‘MythBusters’ host killed in crash while trying to break speed record

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jet-car speed racer Jessi Combs, known by fans as the “fastest woman on four wheels,” has died in a crash in Oregon’s Alvord Desert while trying to break a speed record, local authorities said Wednesday.

Combs, 36, died Tuesday afternoon while racing in a dry lake bed in a desert in remote Harney County, sheriff’s Lt. Brian Needham said in a statement. The cause is under investigation.

Terry Madden, Combs’ teammate on the North American Eagle racing team, said in an Instagram post Wednesday that he was heartbroken and added a video collage of photos and video clips of Combs with various team members.

“She was the most amazing spirit that I have ever or will ever know,” Madden wrote. “Unfortunately we lost her yesterday in a horrific accident, I was the first one there and trust me we did everything humanly possible to save her!!”... Read More

State casino winnings top $1 billion for July

LAS VEGAS (AP) — July was a good month for casinos in Nevada, with house winnings topping $1 billion for the fourth time this year. The $1.02 billion that casinos statewide won in July nearly matched the $1.04 billion a month earlier and represented a 2.9% increase compared with July 2018, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said.

House winnings on increased slot machine play contributed to a 4.4% increase in statewide casino winnings in that category compared with July of last year.

On the Las Vegas Strip, casinos reported a boost in slot machine win amounts and a modest 1.6% increase in their winnings for the month compared to the previous year.

The state reaped $73.9 million in taxes based on the July figures, a comparative windfall up more than 30% from June and up 32.5% from a year ago... Read More

Montanez’s idea to create Flamin’ Hot Cheetos transformed the Frito Lay brand into pop culture phenomenon, creating numerous other styles of the hot snacks.

Las Vegas businesswoman missing, not seen since last week

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas family members and police are looking for a woman who mysteriously disappeared six days ago. Friends say it is extremely out of character for 53-year-old Sharon Harrell to lose contact with everyone.

Harrell and her husband, Irving, own TC’s World Famous Rib Crib on Durango Drive near Twain Avenue. The family established the restaurant after leaving Louisiana, following Hurricane Katrina. Friends said she never missed a day of work.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Harrell was last seen Friday evening in the area of Durango Drive and Oakey Boulevard.
