PROGRAMMING CHANGES: Democratic presidential candidates to debate tonight in South Carolina

LAS VEGAS (KLAS/AP) — Democratic presidential contenders will face off in a debate Tuesday night in South Carolina. The fight for the nomination is expected to explode on the debate stage as Bernie Sanders Democratic rivals try to halt his momentum.

The debate begins at 5 p.m. and will impact local programming in the following manner:

  • 3 p.m. – Dr. Phil (Las Vegas Now is pre-empted)
  • 4 p.m. – Special edition of 8 News Now
  • 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. – CBS Democratic Debate Coverage
  • 9 p.m. – Jeopardy
  • 9:30 p.m. – Wheel of Fortune
  • 10 p.m. – CBS will announce programming
  • 11 p.m. – 8 News Now

No fewer than three Sanders rivals unleashed paid attack ads against the Vermont senator for the first time on the eve of Tuesday night’s debate in South Carolina. And several outside groups traditionally aligned with Democrats worked to undermine Sanders’ standing with key constituencies.

The new wave of infighting came just hours before seven Democrats were set to meet in South Carolina for the party’s 10th and perhaps most consequential debate of the 2020 primary season.
