Celebrating Year of the Pig

Tuesday marks a new year in the lunar calendar and this is the Year of the Pig.

More than a billion people celebrate the lunar new year. Through February, celebrations are happening across the Las Vegas valley.

Every year the lunar new year is dedicated to a different animal. The most common myth says that an emperor made these animals earn their years.

He held a race and out of 12 animals, the pig came in dead last. But that's OK because sometimes the best is saved for last.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Downtown Summerlin® celebrates Lunar New Year - the Year of the Pig - by hosting its second annual parade at 6 p.m. on Park Centre Drive.

Guests will be entertained with an oversized chinese dragon, characters dressed as lions with percussionists and glorious fan dancers performing a graceful dance for all to enjoy. The property will randomly distribute red envelopes filled with chocolate gold coins and surprise $10 gift cards to patrons and children in attendance while supplies last.

The event is free and open to the general public.
