Palo Verde Student Wins in Congressional Art Contest

Nevada Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-Las Vegas) today announced the winners of First Congressional District in the annual Congressional Art Competition.

The winning work from District 1 by artist Kylee Love of Palo Verde High School will be displayed in the Capitol.

Award winners were selected by a panel of local judges that included: Brian “Paco” Alvarez, Becky Grismanauskas and Sydelle MacKay.

Design a Grocery Bag to Win at Fresh & Easy

Ten people will win $100 gift cards and one grand winner will get groceries for a year from Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market through the company’s Design-A-Bag contest.

The contest runs now through May 15 for California, Nevada and Arizona residents 13 years and over. They must submit an original design for the next Fresh & Easy reusable bag and a panel of judges will choose 10 finalists – each of whom will receive $100 gift cards for their efforts.

From the top 10, the winner will be selected by a group of customers called “Friends of Fresh & Easy.” The winning design will be made into a reusable bag and sold in all Fresh & Easy stores. The winner will get the grand prize of a year’s supply of groceries.

Performances for Kids Hit Downtown This Summer

A number of exciting children’s performances will take place downtown this summer.

The city of Las Vegas will present concerts and theatre especially for children of all ages this July at the Charleston Heights Arts Center and at the downtown Historic Fifth Street School.

  • Leland Faulkner will perform his “World of Wonder” show at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Charleston Heights Arts Center at 800 S. Brush St. The “World of Wonder” is theatre designed for the whole family — a show that combines the amazing and lost art of shadowgraphs (hand shadows), comedy, a mime's skill, an actor’s imagination and the conjuror's craft.

ArtWalk Summerlin On Tap This Weekend

The 13th Annual ArtWalk Summerlin returns this weekend.

Trails Village Center brings the Las Vegas Valley’s longest running and largest fine art show, and celebration of artwork and fine crafts, kids crafts, live entertainment and art demonstrations. The juried show runs Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm daily, at Trails Village Center in the heart of Summerlin.

The art show features fine art works and crafts in all mediums – mixed media, oils, watercolors, photography, works in paper, metal and clay sculpture, wood-crafted items, fiber, hand-created jewelry and works in glass. Local art guilds – including the Fiber Arts Guild, Vegas Artists Guild and the Nevada Clay Guild – will demonstrate their craft and exhibit and sell their works. The Fiber Arts Guild will also host a kid’s craft for visitors to ArtWalk. The artwork selected to represent this spring’s art show, titled “Murtle the Turtle”, was created by painter and illustrator, Lary R.

Hornsby Bringing Old, New Tunes to Red Rock

Rocker Brucce Hornsby returns to Las Vegas.

Bruce Hornsby made a few visits to Sam Boyd Stadium as a Grateful Dead keyboardist, and a sense of jam-band adventure carries into set list-free shows with his own band, the Noisemakers.
