Free Clinic Needs More Medical Help | Charity
A clinic that offers free health care is looking for more volunteers to help fill the growing need in the Las Vegas valley.
Community Care Clinic has two locations, one near Summerlin and the other downtown. It is looking for six additional doctors along with nurses, medical office personnel and a social worker. Organizers want to expand office hours and accommodate more people in need.
Right now, one clinic is only open the first and third Friday of each month for just two and a half hours. The second clinic is open on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The medical professionals would only have to donate as little as three hours of their time per month.
Everything from chronic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure to immediate health issues like cancer are treated at the clinics. The clinics have also worked out partnerships with laboratories and pharmacies to provide free and low-cost lab work and prescriptions.
The clinics were established in 2009 by Southern Nevada Community Foundation. The foundation has filled a need for many people hit hard by the difficult economic times. Doctors and medical support staff who would like to volunteer can call (702) 485-3603 or visit freecliniclv.com and click on volunteer under the staff menu option.
