JDRF of Southern Nevada Kicks Off Pre-Walk Reception

JDRF of Southern Nevada Kicks Off Pre-Walk Reception

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of Southern Nevada held its Walk To Cure Diabetes Corporate Reception on Thursday at Red Rock Country Club.  This was a chance for local businesses and others who are interested in supporting JDRF to find out about the Walk, where the money goes, and the many reasons to get involved.

The 5K Walk (3.2 miles) is scheduled for November 19 on the UNLV campus and could attract close to 4,000 walkers who will have raised money to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes and its complications. One in three children born after the year 2000 will develop some form of diabetes in their lifetime, according to JDRF.

There is no cure for Type 1 (formerly referred to as juvenile diabetes) and you never outgrow it. Type 1 diabetes strikes people at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
