Thousands Raised at Prendes Golf Classic

Thousands Raised at Prendes Golf Classic

More than $15,000 was raised on May 7 at the 5th Annual Henry Prendes Golf Classic. The tournament was played at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Summerlin.

The money raised at the event will benefit Henry's Place, a camp for underprivileged kids being built in Cedar City, Utah. A portion of the money will also go to the Injured Police Officers Fund.

“I am truly overcome with gratitude for the continuous support of our community in the last five years that has helped turn our dream into a reality, from Metro’s involvement and all of the golfers who participated to the generous donations of friends and local businesses and the media who help us promote our efforts, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” said Dawn Prendes, widow of Sgt. Prendes and founder of Henry’s Place.

Sgt. Henry Prendes died in 2006 while responding to a domestic violence call.

Trauma Support Program Seeks Volunteers

The non-profit Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Southern Nevada, Inc. is currently recruiting compassionate citizens to serve on its emergency response crisis team to help people on the worst day of their life.

TIP of Southern Nevada began serving the citizens of Clark County in 1994. TIP is committed to helping those in crisis by providing immediate on-scene support to those emotionally traumatized. TIP volunteers are requested by local police, fire and hospital personnel to respond to scenes of sudden or unexpected death, violent crimes, sexual assault and other traumatic events to provide emotional and practical support to family, friends, witnesses or victims.

TIP volunteers must have a clean criminal and driving history. Volunteers are required to attend a training academy, pass a three-month field training program and attend a monthly continuing education meeting. Volunteers are also required to commit to three 12-hour shifts per month.

Each entry purchased for the event included a raffle ticket to one of three local resort getaway packages, food, spirits, and live entertainment. Raffle winners for the getaway packages were: Raymond Wilmer, Grand Prize - Caesars Palace Las Vegas; Juan Carlos Garza - Ravella at Lake Las Vegas; and Heather Stanley - The Venetian Las Vegas.
