Summerlin Welcomes Spring with Annual Easter Egg Hunt

 

The Easter bunny is coming to Summerlin this weekend for the annual Summerlin Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza.

The event will give children ages 4 and up a chance to hunts for eggs and prizes. There will also be games and a chance to meet with the Easter bunny. There are also special events for children 3 years old and younger.

The Eggstravaganza is from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at The Trails Park Ball Fields. The children will be divided by age for the egg hunts. Egg hunt passes can be purchased for $5 each at The Trails, Willows and Gardens Community Centers. People can also buy passes on the day of the event for $8 starting at 9 a.m., at The Trials Community Center. Proof of Summerlin residency is required.

An art exhibit showcasing work created by cancer patients, friends, caregivers and their families is on display at Humana Guidance Centers through February 17.

Organizers say it’s a way for people to express how cancer affects them through art. There also will be doctors from the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada coming in to give talks:

Preschoolers Send Cards to Troops in Afghanistan

Preschoolers at Merryhill School in Las Vegas created handmade Valentine’s Day cards for U.S. troops serving in Afghanistan.

Throughout January, the students decorated patriotic cards to show gratitude and express their appreciation for everything troops do to protect American citizens. The cards will arrive just in time to give a few soldiers a special Valentine’s Day reminder of love and thanks.

‘Tis the season to give with Aquae Sulis as the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa hosts “12 Days of Giving,” a holiday fundraiser with a portion of the proceeds benefitting local charities Monday, Dec. 5 through Friday, Dec. 16.

Aquae Sulis’ “12 Days of Giving” encourages guests to share a day of relaxation and pampering at the spa by purchasing gift certificates for their loved ones this holiday season. Ten percent of all sales over $50 will be dedicated to participating local charities and non-profit organizations serving the Las Vegas community.

Humana Food Drive Brings in 400 Pounds for Seniors

 

A food drive organized by Humana Guidance Centers netted 400 pounds of food for seniors near the Thanksgiving holiday.

The centers in Henderson and Summerlin collected the of food to benefit Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides assistive services to senior citizens in Southern Nevada. 

The food items were collected inside the Valley’s two Guidance Centers: 1000 N. Green Valley Parkway in Henderson and 8975 W. Charleston Blvd. in Las Vegas. Helping Hands of Vegas Valley picked up the food on Nov. 22 and distributed it to seniors across the Valley for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Movies in the Park to Feature Comedy Classic

The nights are cooler and are a perfect time to enjoy an outdoor movie.

The team from the food truck Slidin’ Thru is working with the city of Las Vegas to present Movies in the Park. “Ghostbusters” will be shown at Angel Park, Westcliff Drive and Durango Drive, starting at 6 p.m., Friday.  

Besides the movie, there will be food trucks, live art, a bouncy house and a huge Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Top Magazine Names The Lakes as One of the Prettiest Neighborhoods

A Las Vegas community with its own man-made lakes is named one of the prettiest neighborhoods in America.

A planned community within Sin City, The Lakes was built during the 1980s and 1990s to help handle part of the huge influx of people to Las Vegas.
