Congratulations to James and Cynthia Hughes, winners of SNWA's Yard of the Month

Congratulations to James and Cynthia Hughes, winners of SNWA's Yard of the Month

Congratulations are in order for James and Cynthia Hughes, who have won the SNWA's Yard of the Month. The couple was inspired to remove their grass as a part of the Water Smart Landscapes program, and have since replaced it with a striking assortment of drought tolerant plants such as Agave, Spurge, Pink Lady Indian Hawthorne, Silverberry, English Ruellia and Coral Fountain, as well as a vegetable garden.

Their have been other bonuses aside from the beauty of the new plants and functionality of the vegetable garden, too. When it came to the water bills, James stated “The month before we made the conversion, our water bill was probably close to $300,” he said. “A month after we finished it, our bill dropped to $60.”

“And some of them since have been about $30,” Cynthia said.

If you know of a yard you think deserves recognition, or would like to find out more about drought friendly landscaping, visit www.snwa.com

CCSD Seeks Imput on Budget from Summerlin Residents at Town Hall Meeting

Clark County is facing some tough decisions when it comes to the new round of budget cuts facing the school district. In order to make the best informed decisions about how to proceed, CCSD is hosting a Town Hall meeting to get feedback directly from the residents of Clark County. The thoughts and feedback you put forth at the meeting will in turn be used to help the district develop budgets for 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 based on projected shortfalls and the governor’s proposed budget.

If you want to have your voice be heard in this matter, come out to the Summerlin Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 15th from 6 to 8 pm at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way, Las Vegas, 89128.
