Nationwide Holding Community Food Drive, Displaying NASCAR Show Car

This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Nationwide Insurance will be holding a food drive at the Summerlin Office to benefit Three Square Food Bank. The food drive will take place from noon to 5 pm each day, and throughout the afternoon people will be able to see the NASCAR Nationwide Series show car and even use the Nationwide racing simulator to take a spin around the track! NASCAR prizes will be handed out, and guests who bring non-perishable food donations for Three Square will be entered into a raffle for tickets to Saturday's Sam's Town 300 race! So all NASCAR fans, donate to a good cause and come see the Nationwide show car!

The food drive will take place March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from noon to 5pm at the Nationwide Insurance of Summerlin, 7331 W. Lake Mead Blvd, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV, 89128.

Coronado High School Wins Nevada Regional Science Bowl Tournament!

This weekend, on February 26th, the Nevada Regional Science Bowl Tournament took place. It was a 32 team, double elimination tournament, with competitors from Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and California, and at the end of the day, the first place winners were the team from Henderson's Coronado High School! The team won $5,000 for the school, and will be going to Washington D.C. to represent the region in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl Competition, April 28 - May 2, 2011! Congratulations to Coronado!

Other Vegas Area schools also made an impressive showing, completely dominating the top ten! A team from Palo Verde High School won second place, the Centennial High School "Blue" team took third, The Meadows School "Blue" team came in fourth while The Meadows School "Green" team won fifth place, and Shadow Ridge High School's team placed seventh! Las Vegas is obviously the place to be for budding scientists, congrats to all of our winners!

City Of Las Vegas Grants Available for Neighborhood Improvement Projects

The city of Las Vegas is offering grants of up to $5,000 through the Neighborhood Partners Fund. The money is available for projects that are done by nonprofit neighborhood associations registered with the city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department, and require the nonprofit match funds with volunteer labor. Applications for the grants will be available at workshops offered throughout the city, or can be found online at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Apply/20718.htm.

Residents interested in the grants are encouraged to call 229-6681 to register the workshops, which will be held at the following time and location:

Summerlin Rotary's Kideract Program Expands

The Rotary Club of Las Vegas Summerlin is adding on to their popular Kideract program this year. The program will continue to bring speakers into Kermit Booker Elementary School to speak about their vocations and how to achieve success, and will now include information about five developmental assets. These new lessons will be about setting goals with family support, school bonding, safety, use of youth programs, and attaining positive values.

Dress for Success's S.O.S. – Send One Suit - Weekend, Feb 24-27

This weekend, you can make a difference is someone's life! Support Dress for Success Southern Nevada by participating in the Send One Suit program this weekend, February 24th-27th.

“This annual campaign encourages women nationwide to donate one new or nearly-new interview suit to help another woman enter the workforce and take charge of her life,” said Paige Candee, Dress for Success Southern Nevada founder. “Donations will help women in their road to self sufficiency.”

Women with nearly new interview suits they are willing to donate can stop by Dress for Success's location at 3400 West Desert Inn, Suite 29, Las Vegas, or one of the 5 Las Vegas area Dressbarn stores, which will be accepting donations all weekend. Donated clothes will be distributed to women, along with support and career development tools, by Dress for Success.

Local Dressbarn locations accepting suits this weekend are:
