Fire Restrictions Start Saturday

Fire restrictions around the state start on Saturday.

Last year firefighters responded to more than 100 fires around southern Nevada, in all those fires destroyed more than 700 acres. Most fires are started by lightning strikes, but careless people are also responsible for fires that can quickly burn out of control in our dry deserts and forest lands. Starting Saturday and through the summer season, on Mt. Charleston there will be no wood or charcoal fires unless in developed picnic areas.

The Bureau of Land Management, The National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry, The U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working together to enforce fire restrictions in national parks and conservation areas in hopes of stopping fires before they start.
