Beers, Kermit Headline Back-to-School Event

Consider yourself a true Las Vegas political junkie if you knew about the tie between Bob Beers and Kermit the Frog.

Las Vegas Councilman Beers invites residents to join him for a free back-to-school fair and movie in the park from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on August 9 in Ansan Sister City Park.

Free backpacks, school supplies, light refreshments and beverages will be distributed in the park at 7801 Ducharme Ave. (at Buffalo Drive near Alta) while supplies last.

Residents are invited to bring blankets and picnic baskets and enjoy numerous children’s activities until the PG-rated “The Muppets” movie starts at dusk.

“I’ve been a big fan of Kermit the Frog since I first saw him pick up a banjo,” Councilman Beers said. “In the latest movie, which we will be showing Aug. 9, he actually graduates to a five-string instrument.”

Bowl 4 The Kids Coming In September!

The connection between bowling and providing medical care for children with little or no health insurance may not seem like an obvious one, but so far it's working just fine.

That’s according to Annette Logan, Executive Director of the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, which had its first Bowl-a-Thon in 2011 and is planning its second event September 22 at the Suncoast Bowling Center.

“We were amazed at how many people signed up to help us last year, and how much money we raised,” Logan said.  “It’s so gratifying to see the community support us because we are the only non-profit facility in the state providing this kind of care."
