World's Largest Chocolate Bar Display Brings Healthy Message | Health
The World’s Largest Chocolate Bar was on display Friday at one elementary school, but the message of the visit was a healthy one.
Students at Bonner Elementary School got a chance to see the 12,190 pound chocolate bar as an example of “portion distortion.” World’s Finest Chocolate brought the bar and the multimedia display that comes with it to the school. The display is part of the “Think Big, Eat Smart” campaign, which teaches children about eating right and staying fit.
"When you're trying to teach children about things like moderation and how to have a healthy relationship with food, having something that really makes them sit up and take notice helps make the message memorable," said Nelda Mercer, a registered dietitian and former spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association.
The kids were also taught a special exercise dance to emphasize the importance of an active lifestyle. The chocolate bar was a reminder to kids to eat treats, like chocolate, only in moderation.
The bar is 21 feet long, three feet high and four feet wide. The Guinness Book of World Records certified the bar being the World’s Largest Chocolate Bar in September.
