Man Fined $95K in Sun City Hoarding Case

LAS VEGAS -- The owner of a Sun City Summerlin home has been ordered to pay a $95,553 fine to cover the city's cost for cleaning up his home.

Kenneth Epstein, 55, appeared in Las Vegas Municipal Court Tuesday morning and pleaded no contest to the charges against him. Epstein was found to be hoarding all kinds of items, including more than 50 cats. When city workers began removing trash from the home, they discovered dead animals, insect-infected items, feces, rodents and decaying food. City officials referred to it as one of the worst hoarding cases they had ever seen. The home was completely gutted.

The judge ordered that Epstein see a counselor and stay out of trouble. Epstein is not allowed to own any pets or firearms.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 29, 2013.
