LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have identified the driver accused of trying to take down two police officers Wednesday.

According to police, as Alexander Martinez was leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash at Summerlin Parkway and Durango Drive around 6 a.m., he was spotted by two officers near the intersection of Durango and Westcliff.

The officers attempted to stop Martinez's car, but he tried to ram their squad car and fled the area, police said. A short time later, Martinez crashed his car into a wall at the intersection of Charles Turk Drive and Stapleton Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, the vehicle was on fire, but Martinez was gone. Metro said he fled on foot.

Martinez was found at a home in the area and arrested. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
