'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' draws 15,000
LAS VEGAS -- More than 15,000 people from around the valley got up early Sunday morning to take “strides” for a good cause. Participants did this at the 15th annual Las Vegas “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk.
There were two main goals for the annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society: Raise awareness about breast cancer and raise money to fight the disease.
Breast cancer survivor for eight years now, Lula Sturdivant, laced up her sneakers for the event.
"It means a lot to me. I hope every year it keeps growing and growing. I would love to see triple the amount of people. This is just awesome! It's amazing,” said Sturdivant.
Organizers of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer said the 3 mile walk has grown significantly since it started in Nevada in 1999, and it brought out people far and wide.
