Meadows Kids Holds Bake Sale for Animals

Meadows Kids Holds Bake Sale for Animals

A group of local second-graders are working together to raise money for animal adoptions in the sweetest of ways.

From noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the students from the Meadows School will hold a fundraising bake sale for the Nevada SPCA. They will be joined by rescued dogs from the shelter.

Last year, the students raised more than $7,000, primarily through the sale of items costing under $1, Nevada SPCA officials said.

Meadows School is located at 8601 Scholar Lane.

A new business at Tivoli Village is for the dogs.

There are two lounges, blowout stations and six vanity mirrors, each lined with nail polish bottles across the bottom. You might be guessing the new tenant at Tivoli Village is a salon. Right and wrong.

Couple Looks for Answers After Dog Shot While on Walk

Couple Looks for Answers After Dog Shot While on Walk

A couple is looking for the person who shot their dog Thursday night as they were on a walk near TPC Summerlin Golf Course.

Maria and Diego Sanz de Acedo were walking their husky, Bosco, at around 8:30 p.m., in a park near the golf course. The dog was not on a leash. He had walked a short distance ahead of the Sanz de Acedo's when they heard a loud bang. She thought it was fireworks, but soon they spotted Bosco limping towards them. The dog had been shot.

“At first, I thought it was not real. It took me some seconds to realize this was real. The last thing you expect when you are taking a nice walk is that your dog is going to be shot twice,” Sanz de Acedo said.

They rushed him to a nearby animal hospital. Bosco is now stable, but the large caliber bullet is still lodged near the dog’s spine. The veterinarian says removing it would do more harm.

Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada Helps Bella

Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada Helps Bella

Bella, 6, came into our lives as a foster dog on the day after Christmas 2009 but even on the short ride from the hospital to our home, I already knew she would be staying with us. Her physical condition on that day was just pitiful, but not her spirit.
